Leighton's Profile Leighton Aspell was born in Ireland in 1976. He learnt his trade riding out for his father Patrick before moving to britain and becoming apprentice to Reg Hollingshead in the Midlands. He later moved to Sussex to join Josh Gifford. He is now an established jockey getting many rides for trainers such as, Lucy Wadham, Pat Murphy, Nick Gifford, and just recently he is now picking up rides for Lambourn trainer Oliver Sherwood. In 2002 he won the Welsh National on Pat Murphys Supreme Glory, Two years later he rode the same horse in the Aintree Grand National, His first ride in the race, and came 2nd at 40/1, Many of the fan club members were on each way. Leighton added to his Welsh Grand National winners by riding L'Vanture to victory for trainer Paul Nicholls, His first ride for the champion trainer.He married long time girl friend Nicky in 2005, Nicky is head lass at the Peter Winkworths stables in Sussex.
